Monday feels good

Quick Weekend recap

WOO FUCKING HOO!!!! Bested 50, hell 48 flat, and I left a few seconds out there, tip to start to finish who ran this event, turn the FUCKING CLOCK AROUND SO THAT IT CAN BE SEEN AS YOU FINISH. My indicated time was 48:24, due to my start placement, finished in 48, if I had thought I could have beated 48:20, i would have continued my sprint. Meh, now I have to aim at sub 48 next time I run a 10k which admittedly will be a while. Side note, music was excellante mixo this time, California Lovin by Pac and Dre started me off, Saturday in the Park by Chicago when we through Handy, and last two songs were Don't Stop (live from the Dance) and You only get what you Give. Due to shuffle, no way it was planned so the Kudo of the Week to my Evo's music player software

The course was easy, the 5 and 10 were the same until the 2.5 marker when the 5kers turned off and we kept running through downtown. It was a strange course, ran past the Blue Monkey, ran through that housing development on the bluffs, and did a big out loop then back in to finsh on Beale. Another suggestion for races that end in a non even numbered distance, put up a 1 mile to go sign to help us out.

Next day, ran from the house to the Zoo, its a shade under 5 miles from the house there on Poplar. Legs took forever to unkink and the wind was kicking up, but I felt good. The pace I ran is what I want to try and do for the Nautical 10 miler in June and hopefully (not bloody likely) for a half at some point soonish.

No run today. Rest day then run for three of the next four with a long on Thursday. Then its off for most of next week due to VACATION!!!!!!!! Post later this week coming.

4 days to Race

First race of the year coming up on Saturday, the Move It Memphis 5k/10k at 10am downtown. Aiming to hit 50 mins, I think I can, hope so, no real hills on the course, should be fun.

If I ran the 5k, I have a gooooood chance at age placing, 10k....not so much, but doing the 10k due to needing the distance run. Hoping to enjoy myself.

Weekend run on Sunday was good that I did it, not good cause I was dying and hated the entire run, but I did it. Had a good workout this morning getting the weights in, lay off tomorrow and then a semi hard day Thursday, rest Friday, run Saturday.

All for now, buh-bye.

Saturday by the park

Today was a contrast day, started slow, finished fast.  Knee sore from Thursday so had to take it slow until it stretched out.  The park mentioned is the one next to east high, I forget the name due to apathy.  Tomorrow is feeling like the greenline, hope I can go looooooong.  We'll know tomorrow.

Today was okay

Good low energy run. Did 6 even in just a hair under 48 minutes. Had a slight muscle cramp in the old right calf about half way in, sucked as I was on a 7:42 pace. That doesn't happen, I probably cruise to 7-8 miles which was my target. What I learned is that those foot pads I like to soften the blow and stretch out my right foot, eventually cause some calf and hip pain. I think I will just deal with the little bit of pain that I have in that one area until it stretches out, its a lot easier to deal with.

Coming up this weekend, leg permitting, Saturday longish run, prolly in the 8-10 mile range, likely in the lower end. Weather today was worst this week, overcast, low 60s, and windy, the wind is what sucked. Sad part, I would have killed for this a week or more ago, now I'm just whining a little, deal with it fat ass.

Tired, but good time

Woohoo, new workout schedule began Monday, 45 minutes of weights followed by a 3 mile run. I am planning to do this at least two days a week, with 1-2 other weight days, and 1-2 cardio only days. It'll be mix and match, don't want to blow out and overtire myself. Tomorrow is a longer run day, weather permitting.

I think 6-8 or so sounds right, I'll probably do most of it on the greenline as it shouldn't be that busy in the late morning of a weekday. I would do it Saturday, but the Greenline will be packed I bet. I will keep you updated. Quick side note, she may be aggravating as hell, but her music is good to run to, so this weeks kudo is to....Ke$ha.

Sad note, my condolences to my good friend Shawn Pryor and his wife Lee on the passing of her grandmother. Be strong bro.

Goals and the fallacy of being guided by them

Over the next few months, okay the next 9 months, I am going to be embarking on a personal quest. A quest to be a faster, better runner than I am today.

Last year I ran in 17 races, 10 as part of the MRTC Road Race Series, 1 5 miler (the Overton Classic, 1 4 miler (Cooper Young), and 4 5ks (Meowathon, First Tee, Rotary Club, and the True Blue), and the St Jude half, I was forced to pull out of 3 races due to weather or wife illness. This year I have already registered for 6 and plan to register for at least another 5-10 plus the RRS, a mix of 5k, 10k, half marathon, full marathon, and various other shorter distances.

My times last year were good for someone who had never run competetively, and let's be honest, will never be a high end runner, but someone who can compete in his age bracket and the overall, so long as the entrants level is small. My goal is to finish at a minimum in the top half of my age, and the top quarter overall. Last year, I was able to do that easily. Next year will be more of the same I hope.

These were my best times last year based on the races

5k: 22:44 (7:20 per) tru blue
4m: 31:14 (7:49 per) Cooper Young
5m: 42:14 (8:27 per) RRS 2nd
10k 50:10 (8:06 per) RRS 2nd
10m 1:26:21 (8:39 per) RRS 2nd
hm 1:58:15 (9:02 per) RRS 1st

What is funny about these times is that I run faster in competition than I do in training. Two weeks ago I ran for an hour and beat the following 4m, 5m, and 10k times. My goals these next year are going to be hard to do in competetion due to going out too fast and not closing fast like I do when I run, but I think I can do them.

5k: sub 22
4m: sub 30, preferably closer to 29
5m: sub 40, as close to 39 as I can get
10k: sub 49, preferably as close to 48 as I can
10m: around 1:22, preferably close to 1:20, note on this, the RRS 10m are beasts
hm: 1:50
fm: 4:10

Over the next few months I will post my times, talk about my runs, links to photos, etcs. There will be other things discussed, but look for at least 2-3 running updates a week.
